SYNOPSIS :
Once an orphan and street child, Rusber became an animal caretaker after Nena, the director of a monkey sanctuary in Bolivia, took him in and adopted him when he was eight years old. Now a young adult, while helping his adoptive family move to escape the highway construction site that threatens the monkeys’ peace and the shelter’s very existence, Rusber sets out to complete his final year of veterinary studies. He hopes to finally earn his degree and satisfy his need to explore new horizons. At university, he is confronted with views of the veterinary profession that are in direct conflict with his own convictions. Above all, the fires ravaging the country remind him of the urgency of the present, of Nena, and of the new sanctuary. On the edge of the Bolivian Amazon, Rusber works to rebuild the lives of monkeys affected by the fires and deforestation, hoping that one day they can return to their natural habitat. Amid this daily routine of care, torn between his attachment to the monkeys, his loyalty to Nena, and his own desires, Rusber searches for his path to freedom.
